The POLDRA – Van Size Public Art (www.poldra.com/van) is an initiative that aims to conceive, execute and install, in temporary exhibitions—for variable periods—contemporary works of Public Art. Not being site-specific, they should enable an interaction with public spaces of variable contexts and in various locals. The main objective of POLDRA – Van is to interact with people on a human scale, and to support dialogue on the meaning and value of Art within the public space.
These artworks that derive from POLDRA – Public Sculpture Project (www.poldra.com) are designed expressly for a dynamic circulation. Compatible with the maximum dimensions of a minivan (max 160 x 160 x 160 cm), or able to be assembled easily and quickly, the works give body to the idea of a flash assembly/exhibit. If a place is available, the POLDRA – Van pieces may be presented there…integrating the notion of global access to Public Art (“If the mountain will not come…”). The artworks also incorporate the principle of minimal intervention, and can be installed without foundations or support systems that—in any way—require the conditioning and/or destruction (total or partial) of the surfaces and contexts of that same implantation.
For the first “Journey,” the visual artists Cristina Ataíde, Pedro Pires and Liliana Velho were invited. The first “stopover” was the Solar do Vinho do Dão Gardens (Fontelo – Viseu, Portugal), on July 23rd, 2021. The second stopover, from February 15th, 2022, was the gardens of the New Cycle, in Tondela at ACERT.

The designation “Junior Curator” simultaneously refers to the notion of age of the participants (ideally considered for a range of ages) and the notion of experience. “Junior” because “new” in the analysis of the presented reality. On the other hand, “Curator” refers doubly for the artistic curatorship, the exhibition, yet equally for the responsibility of preservation and action oriented towards respect for any “good” the public space requires, and that admits every member of the community.
